How to keep your bridal make up cruelty free by Steph Swain MUA

My name is Steph and I have been freelancing as a hair and makeup artist for over 10 years. I’m here to share my skincare tips with you all to get you your best, most glowing skin in time for the big day.

Bridal Make up by Steph Swain

During my time as a MUA I have tried and tested hundreds of products, whilst actively searching for those which are cruelty free and free from harmful toxins like parabens and mineral oil, so that I can provide a safer and more ethical option for my brides.

I’m now working with a Swiss brand called Arbonne which are free from animal products, totally vegan, cruelty free, paraben free and toxin free. They’re also free from tree nuts, which a client informed me recently that not all beauty products are – who knew! Arbonne are also clinically tested which means they get real results on real people. Below I’m going to share my skincare tips and why EVERY step is important.

First step is a good cleanser, which cleans any makeup and excess oils on the skin. Depending on age you can either use a scrub or cream texture. Scrubs are great for cleaning pores and removing dead skin cells and blackheads, however if your skin is older scrubs can break down collagen as the skin is naturally losing it, which means less elasticity! My favourite scrub is the Arbonne Prepwork Cleansing Polish, and if you have more mature skin I would recommend the Arbonne Re9 Brightening Cleanser. To remove dead skin cells and reveal younger glowy skin without using a scrub you can opt for the Cellular Renewal Mask which uses pineapple enzymes to eat away at the dead cells.

My second step would be a good serum which works on the deeper layers of the skin to hydrate and plump skin. I use the Arbonne Re9 Brightening Serum twice a day underneath my moisturiser, as products should be layered thinnest product first and thickest last.

Don’t forget the eyes! So many of my clients don’t use an eye cream, however the eyes should be first priority as the skin is so much thinner and they’re the first place to age. Use half a pea sized amount on the socket bone around the eye. Too much or going too close to the eye can make puffiness worse as it overloads the skin. My go to is also from the Arbonne Brightening range as it brightens as well as reduces lines.

I apply a moisturiser over my serum as this will work on the top layer of the skin, and have separate ones for day time and night time. During the day your skin is in defence mode, protecting from external elements such as pollution and sun damage. Whilst you sleep your skin is in repair mode, which means it loses a lot of moisture, hence why night creams usually have a much thicker consistency. My can’t live without day cream is the Arbonne Bio Hydria which has Aloe Vera and Witch Hazel extracts, whilst offering 48 hours proven hydration. At night its back to the Re9 Brightening for their amazing night cream, which you only need a pea sized amount.
